How to become a stop the bleed® instructor

Thank you for your interest about becoming a STOP THE BLEED® (from here STB) Instructor.

 

There are different paths to this objective, through different organisation. Every organisation has different educational programs (curricula), which differ in the way and the degree of detail with which they present the same content. This is because a STB curriculum is usually composed of few basic points:

- How to recognize a massive haemorrhage

- Security protocols

- Emergency call

- Techniques: direct pressure, wound packing and tourniquet application

 

Although the content of different curricula is the same, the way this is presented to the students can be very different depending on the organisation.

 

Applying as an Organisation

 

First step for you is to understand whether you want to apply as an individual or as an organisation. For example, if you are part of a military unit, a school, a no profit organisation, you could as well apply for a STB Educational License (from here STB EL) for your organisation in order to teach using the STB registered mark and releasing students’ certificates in name of your organisation. In order to teach a STB curriculum, an organisation needs to have a STB EL granted from the US Department of Defense (from here US DoD). Once an organisation receives this, it can “recruit” instructors. When you apply for a STB EL you will also have to choose a curriculum. The curricula available at present are American College of Surgeons (from here ACS), and STOP THE BLEED® Coalition (from here STB Coalition). We as B. Con. – Foggia © (from here BCF) offer our curriculum to partner organisations with which have a longstanding relationship of friendship and cooperation, and if we are sure our curriculum will be taught properly. Whatever curriculum you choose for your organisation, your STB EL will be granted from the US DoD through the STB Coalition. Applying as an Individual

 

If you don’t want to apply for a STB EL for an organisation, you can apply as an individual instructor to either the STB Coalition (stopthebleedcoalition.org) or the American College of Surgeons (stopthebleed.org). You may use the tools and resources offered by one or both. We as BCF, accept applications from individual instructors, given that we hold a STB EL in that specific country, although our instructors are constantly supervised in their activities and have to apply to strict rules, given that they passed the vetting process and STB Instructor program.
